Nicholas Devlin (b. 1993, Canada) is a Brooklyn-based sculptor whose work draws on fantasy, folklore, and storytelling while remaining fundamentally grounded in the concept of ‘home’

Approaching his work from an animistic perspective, Devlin views his sculptures as having a degree of aliveness to them, requiring them to assume a guise of usefulness in order to exist within domestic space. His works, informed by a queer perspective, take on functional forms as a means of infiltration—entering spaces where they might not otherwise belong. At the same time, what was once functional is recontextualized and liberated to exist as art. What might have remained a fictional act of world-building instead becomes embedded in lived domestic space. Through this process, Devlin challenges the categorical divisions between fine and functional art, questioning preconceived notions of craft, use, value, and materiality. Over the past four years, he has developed a distinct material language, deliberately mystifying viewers and prompting the recurring question: What is that made of?

His work has been exhibited internationally at Scope Art Fair, Design Miami, Collectible Design Fair, and in various group shows with IRL Gallery, Superhouse Gallery, GCS Agency, Objective Gallery. In 2024, Devlin was named one of the recipients of Sight Unseen’s editorial American Design Hot List award. His work has been featured in Curbed, Artnet, The Art Newspaper, Architectural Digest, Sight Unseen,  Surface, Hypebeast, Domino, Stirpad, The Collector, Pink Essay, and more. He received his MPhil in Architecture and Urban Studies from Cambridge University in 2020 and his Bachelor of Environmental Design(Hons) from the University of British Columbia in 2017.
